What should I do if I want to work while I am going to Shoreline Community College?

1.) Look for a job on campus. Where should I go to look? These are a few of the offices that hire a lot of students, you will need to go and speak with them.

• Cafeteria. Jobs: serving food, taking money, restocking food items, washing dishes, and cleaning the cafeteria area.

• Safety and Security Office. Jobs: helping with security at events, helping patrol parking lots, writing tickets, and general office duties.

• Bookstore. Jobs: restocking bookstore, helping students locate materials, cashier duties, and general office work.

• Plant Operations- 900 Building. Jobs: weeding, picking up garbage, cleaning up campus and other outside work.

2.) What should I ask about when looking for a job on campus?

• Do you have any hourly positions available? Many offices on campus will have “work study” jobs available. These positions are only for resident students who are receiving financial assistance from the state of Washington.

• If they have a job available ask for an application. Also you should ask about what hours are available.

• If they do not have any jobs available ask if they will have any available in the future. See if they have a sort of waiting lists for jobs.

• Once you have been offered a job on campus begin to fill out the paperwork. You will also need to come to International Programs to get a letter for the social security office. Our office will also need to sign your job paperwork.

• During the school year you will need to work only 20 hours a week. On vacation time you can work full time.

• Continue to register and pass 12 credits while you are working. Unless you are eligible for a vacation. If you do not pass at least 12 credits you are not allowed to work on campus.

• Begin to work and enjoy.
